If i had to choose between flame and explosives i would choose a shrapnel grenade

Fragmentation grenades are built specifically to propel shrapnel into a human body to sever blood vessels to make the body bleed out. If we are under the same census that we are in need of destroying the brain, our previous war devices will be in need of scrutinizing. If you were to talk about using home made pipe-bombs to be detonated in mid-air, then I would say you have a decent idea. Though I still say claymores would be a better option since they are directional explosive devices instead of omnidirectional. Fire devices are too dangerous to use in such a situation since one would need to be able to fight said fire to keep their Safe house in tact, and the fact that you are using valuable resources that would be better used to enable you a higher chance of survival. Your choices either enable your survival or place an artificial obstacle in your chances to succeed. Choose wisely.

Very good point but, what if you had the timed grenades not with a timer but the ones where you better let go in 5 sec or your hand gets blown off.

All grenades manufactured have a 5 second delay. They don't have timers... It is the way the ignition device was designed. Here is an easy to understand video showing you how it works on a low tech level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LR0jTkx4w4I

Gasoline is an integral resource for generators and transportation. Don't waste it. Explosives are easy to create, however they are not that effective. Your main concept is not to kill the zombie with the explosive, but to disable it or slow them down en-mass. When you have disabled their movement capabilities, you can then effectively (yet cautiously still) destroy them one at a time on your terms. Though there is a massive hazard you also need to look at: Will an explosion accelerate the zombie virus into the air to infect myself or the people around me? When you can figure out if that will/ will not happen, then you have your answer for the use of that weapon. This is where tactics come into play. There is a time and place to use explosives. Around your safe house is not one of them. The same goes for a lot of other items - like Molotovs.

I think that I can be of help with this topic. Af far as explosives are concerned they are allways going to be vary dangerous. They have a tendincy to be unstable in a lot of cases. If for whatever reason you get your hands on explosives you are going to want to keep them for destruction of various approches to your safe location to slow down the oncoming hords of the undead. There are weaponized uses for explosives as well that can take out large ammounts of the undead as well. Specificly things like shaped charges or directional charges (claymore's) but these should be used on a command detonation only otherwise you might end up killing a non hostile surviver....

Explosives are one thing, fire, now that's just stupid. Think about it, the only thing worse than a zombie, is a burning zombie.

That's because it will most likely get you killed if you use it during the zombie apocalypse.
